Surrey Hills & North Downs Explorer Weekend
Ride description
The Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is home to some of the finest forest MTB trails in the South-East of the England.
Over your two day visit we'll show the very best these three hills have to offer; all cleverly joined up by your experienced local mountain bike guide.
On Saturday night we'll treat you to a night in a local 4-Star hotel with a slap-up breakfast included to get you going on day two.
Day One - Surrey Hills Killer Loop
On day one the ride will set off through the Denbies Wine Estate; amazingly europe's biggest Vineyard in single ownership. We'll take in The Rookery, Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill, Peaslake, Pitch Hill, Winterfold Wood, and Shere, before returning via the North Downs or, alternatively, the proposed route of National Cycle Network 22.
We will of course have the option to stop for refreshments at Coldharbour, Leith Hill Tower and Peaslake Village Stores.
On day one the ride usually covers about 40-45km of trails in The North Downs and Surrey Hills.
Day Two - Surrey Hills Singletrack Explorer
The Surrey Hills, to the South fo The North Downs, are home to some of the finest singletrack in the South-East. The best of the trails are spread out along the sandstone hills of Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill and Pitch Hill.
The ride on day two will consist of a combination of some the following singletracks:

- Deer Trail (aka Salsa Trai or Delirium)

- Telegraph Road (or Row)

- Mini Moto
- Widow Maker
Pitch Hill
- Doug's Trail
- Champagne Supernova (aka Vauxhall Nova or Jon Webb to Supernova)

- Hound Trail
- The 'T' Trails (T1, T1.5, T2, T3)

On day two the ride usually covers about 35-40km of trails in The Surrey Hills.
Is this ride right for me?
Please read the following description. If this sounds like you, then you're perfect for this ride:
- This is a Level 3 ride and therefore you should be already confident and competent in all aspects of our Level 3 course - Singletrack Improver
- You have moderate experience of riding off road and will have tried blue and perhaps red graded singletrack trails before at a trail centre or similar venue
- You have your own mountain bike
- You can already ride confidently on narrow singletrack trails with small rocks, roots and steps
- You exercise at least twice a week and at least one of these sessions is on a bike
- You can ride moderately steep terrain at a steady pace
- You can ride for at least six hours comfortably in a day
- You are aged 18 and over unless accompanied by an adult also participating on the course
If this sounds a little beyond your current skill and fitness level, please consider participating in one of our Singletrack Improver courses first.
Typical programme
Although guided rides are flexible they will usually keep to the following programme:
- Day 1 09:45-10:00 Arrival at ride venu
- Day 1 10:00-10:15 Iintroductions and equipment check
- Day 1 10:15-13:00 Surrey Hills Killer Loop (North Downs section)
- Day 1 13:00-14:00Lunch (at a local pub or cafe)
- Day 1 14:00-17:00 Surrey Hills Killer Loop (Surrey Hills section)
- Day 2 09:45-10:00 Arrival at ride venue
- Day 2 10:00-10:15 Introductions and equipment check
- Day 2 10:15-13:00 Guided singletrack ride around Holmbury, Pitch & Winterfold
- Day 2 13:00-14:00 Lunch (at a local pub or cafe)
- Day 2 14:00-17:00 Guided ride around Leith Hill
